DATA is an exhibition of work by Franz Jantzen, a Washington, D.C.-based photographer. In this exhibition, Jantzen merges his subjects with the tools used to render them. The result is a machine-generated hybrid of automatic, handmade, and spontaneity gently-caught. An aural equivalent would be the sounds made by an electric guitarist who is manipulating the instrument to make music it is not intended to make. The result is not a document of the thing portrayed but instead a poem that merges object and process.
